No, I am not referring to the scandal that is the talk of the town here in Singapore ๐
Instead, I am referring to yet anotherย cure for eczema, which came highly recommended, but which has failed to do anything for us – yet again. In view of that, dh said that I should write down a list of remedies we have tried so far which would explain our cynicism whenever a product is recommended. So here goes!
I am sure I will leave something out. So if you see something not listed here, it may not be that we haven’t tried it but that I have forgotten all about it ๐
Supplements : Flax-Borage oil, Evening Primrose oil, Fish oil, Zinc, Garlic, Vitamin C, MSM, Carylic Acid, Quercetin, Chlorella, Lacto-GG, Multidophilus, digestive enzymes.
Diets : Elimintation Diet, grain free diet, vegetables only diet, candida diet, GAPS Diet.
Water Filters/Systems : Diamond Water (since 2005), Alkaline Water (since Jan 2012)
Drinks : Juices, Smoothies, G3 from NuSkin, going caffeine free
Creams : Ahava Dead Sea cream, Melaleucca’s Renew lotion, California Baby products, Badger Balm products, MadeOn products, Papaw cream, Vaseline (yes, I know, shudders ๐ )
Oils : Coconut, olive, emu.
Others : Wearing Teviron clothing from Nefful, footbaths (no bathtub!) alternating with epsom salt, apple cider venegar, baking soda, sea salt, using the Rainbow vacuum cleaner and air cleaner, homeopathy (as a teenager), naturopath (as a young working adult).
Don’t get me wrong. Not all are duds. Some I am still doing but many are just plain useless for us. Yes, I also have heard the “Oh! You are not taking/doing enough to see the effects” or the “You need to give it time” or “You should see my doctor/homeopath/naturopath/etc” speeches ๐ Many of these I have done/eaten/drunk/abstained for more than a month. While I do not expect to see instantaneous results, I do expect to see some results.
And then there is of course the spiritual things : break the generational curse, read Henry Wright’s book ๐ Go for healing service, go up for prayers, be prayed over and anointed with oil by the elders of the Church ๐
Am I frustrated? Yes! Am I upset? Yes! Have I sought God to ask Him why? Yes! Has it rocked my faith? No.
In fact,ย it has drawn me closer to God.
Psalm 119:67
Before I was afflicted, I went astray,
But now I keep your Word.
and
Psalm 119:71
It is good for me that I have been afflicted
That I may learn Your statutes.
No, I am not a sadist ๐ In everything truly, we know that “all things works together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28.
I know God can and will heal me. I also know that His purposes are higher than mine. I can choose to rant and rave and throw a fit but I can also choose to praise and worship God in the midst of my physical discomfort. For in all things, He is in control. And for those who wonder how I am able to live day-by-day in this manner, the secret is this :
“His grace is sufficient for me,” 2 Corinthians 12:9.
I’m ‘battling’ eczema, my 3.5 year old daughter has it as well as my 55 year old mum. Reading your posts really makes me feel normal, some people think i’m obsessed with keeping eczema under control… some even had the ‘brains’ to suggest that i just let my daughter do and eat anything, as the body will heal itself. My daughter’s eczema is really bad, i don’t post pictures of her cause some people leave cruel remarks or just give unwanted ‘ignorant’ advice,
Is your daughter still using Teviron? How is she now? I just started using it on daughter my too. On the first 4 nights, she slept through the night, thank God. But on the 5th night she started scratching again ๐ I’m trying to find hope to believe in Teviron.
Btw, have you tried MooGoo MSM Soothing cream?
Have you heard the one where they tell you that “poison will fight poison” therefore you SHOULD eat what makes you sick??? My mil has been harping on it since I knew dh! Sheesh! These “kind” people are not the ones suffering the intense-drive-you-crazy itch. So we just smile and look away ๐
We are still using Teviron, still on GAPS but effects seemed to have plateaued. Of course I could get more Teviron clothing to layer them on but…………..it’s hot here in Singapore and the heat makes us scratch more. Don’t see how that can help?! Teviron cloth however does sooth my skin. So after I scratch, I quickly put it on.
And no, I have not tried the cream you mentioned. ๐ A rarity indeed ๐
You know, you’re like God-sent, seriously! I’ve been using almost ALL the stuff/treatments you mentioned in this post… Teviron being the latest addition to our lifestyle… was beginning to doubt everything i did… until i came across your blog. Keep posting, it’s really a morale boost to people like me. ๐
I accidentally came across MooGoo MSM soothing cream few months back, was introduced to it by a friend from Australia, they just started selling it in Malaysia this year. I’ve tried all kinds of oils and creams, but so far this has the fastest and best effect… not a miracle cure, but when it comes to eczema… you know, every little thing helps. Emu oil is not that bad actually but it needs time to set in the skin, that’s just impossible with kids. Same goes for with coconut oil.
Another thing i tried on my daughter that seems to work is consuming Udo’s oil. At first i didn’t notice the difference, but when i removed it from her diet, i could feel that her skin became drier.
Wondering if i can put Eva on the GAPS diet, she has all kinds of food allergies too, worried if she’ll have such a limited choice of food… plus she’s a picky eater ๐ Poor girl already feels upset when other kids we meet can eat all kinds of stuff.
Wish i had stumbled across your blog earlier. God bless you ๐
Not, never heard of the MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream before. I don’t think it is available in Singapore?! A friend recommended this specially compounded cream from this pharmacy in Australia. http://www.hoskingspharmacy.com/ I emailed the pharmacist and he has been helpful BUT it is a yet another expensive cream to try ๐
Still debating to try or not.
GAPS can be very restrictive especially for a young child. My dd at 12 can take it. I have also just this week put the 9 year old on it. So now there are 4 of us on full GAPS at home. The rest eat like GAPS but have rice and biscuits/cookies for snacks. It is a horribly expensive diet!
But it has helped to clear up this annoying cough my ds had.
Hi, just wanted to let you know that i fully understand your frustrations as I have a 7 year old boy who has chronic eczema and the past few years have been very trying. Just like Farzena, I’ve also gone through most of your lists :o). Also tried hosking cream. It’s not bad and did help a little but it’s no miracle cream either.
I’m thankful that my boy has gotten about 50% better in the past year and I do believe it’s God’s blessings as I was so concerned about him starting primary school with this condition.
Not sure if you have heard about NAET treatment? Can find more information on http://www.naet.com. It’s a treatment for food and other allergies. Only suggesting this as I believe it has also helped to reduce the triggers for my son and thus allowing his skin to repair a little faster. Visited Dr Diana Tan from Shenton Medical Clinic who does this treatment.
I’m also believing in God for total healing of the eczema condition of my son and the rest of children. So will hold on to this together with you.
So you don’t think the Hosking cream is worth it? It will cost me nearly $150!!!
Yes I have heard of Naet. A friend had some sucess with it for her dd.
Hi
I think hoskin cream does help a littlr with the healing but for my son, it was more crucial to reduce the itch n triggers. Not sure what kind of eczema yr kids have but my son was the thick lumpy sores and it’s all over from head to toes. It’s not just the dry scaly type. Personally don’t think it’s worth getting the cream. Do u know of anyone who’s using it? Maybe u can get a little to try first before buying it.
Dinah – the cream would be for me, not dd. Hers seemed to have cleared up majorly – praise God! I know it is God coz we have done nothing different with her.
Mine seem to be different on different parts of the body ๐ Scaly on the hands, thickened on the calf ๐ Yes I know someone who has the cream. He was the one who recommended that I try it. BUT I know that a little won’t help. To be fair, I would need to use it for at least a week.
Sigh. Decisions, decisions.
Thanks for sharing though! I will update on the blog if I decide to try it ๐
Hi. Tis so interesting as I recently had a severe eczema attack after being able to stay off steroid creams for years. It was on my face and neck and I used desowen n later elomet but still it kept coming back. After that someone recommended me to use protopic which I did since my son has all kinds of steroid creams avail for his use. Instead of helping, my whole face got worse – from getting drier n drier to burning sensation til I had to put a damp towel on my face to cool it down n try to sleep but to no avail. In the end, saw my son’s dermatologist fr NSC and he recommended me a cream called efficort. Never used it before but it was super effective. Put the cream on in the afternoon and by evening it was much better. Not sure how strong it is but now I bring it w me wherever I go just in case I start rashing.
Found hoskin a little drying. If it’s for u then possible to try but skin is unlikely to respond as fast compared to steroid cream but we all know there’s side effects :0(
Let’s hold fast to our faith and I believe our healing will come :0) Take care!
Dinah! Do read the website I put up after this post – http://www.itsan.org. You would really want to avoid the steroid creams!!!
I have emailed the pharmacist and he’s been very helpful. I think I will put it on hold for now.
