When either dh or I go grocery shopping, we obviously buy a lot. We fill up either the NTUC supermarket trolley or our own large trolley the brim. The wet market sellers know me and no longer bat an eye at my huge orders. But recently at the wet market, while I was placing my usual order with the chicken seller of 5 kampung chickens, 3 kg of breasts and 30 boneless chicken thighs, the customer in front of me gaped and blinked non-stop. And I had not even placed my orders at the butcher’s or the fishmonger’s!

And these are some of the questions we have had to field doing the grocery run :

  • do we run a restaurant/food stall?
  • are we having a large party/gathering?
  • am I a childcare centre cook?

Cooking for our larger than normal family is no mean feat and after comparing with the amount of food other local large family consume, it seems we are HUGE eaters! No one believed that we would devour all 30 boneless chicken thighs at one go but we did!

Look…

This is the huge stainless steel pot I bought for S$50.00 as I was tired of always having to cook our meals in 2 separate pots.

Which fits the 30 boneless chicken thighs with some space to spare.

And this was what was left after dinner….

And then there was none!
And then there was none!

Seriously! It’s crazy isn’t it???? We had rice and vegetables to go with it. Only the 2 youngest ones and I did not have rice. And if this dish was to be served after a swimming lesson, I am sure dh and I would have had to go without our dinner!

Now perhaps you’ll have some sympathy for me when I next whine about cooking 😉 I do this 3x/day almost daily.
