What Is God Calling You To? Need an Alignment Check?

After many months of writing and editing, and then brainstorming and discussing with the designer over the look of the book, followed by more time spent with the graphic designer to actually lay out the book, it is finished!

Alignment Check and Me?

What has this book got to do with you, you may ask?

Plenty.

You know that question you have often asked in your head or maybe asked out loud to a few close friends? The one that goes,

Should I stay at home or should I go out and work?

Where you then proceed to write out the pros and cons of each decision and try to source for godly wisdom to know which path to take?

Friend, a better question to ask is,

What is God calling me to?
And can I fulfil it better as a stay at home mother or as a work out of home mother?

Or perhaps you are in the midst of making some other major life decisions. Such as should your husband take up that job offer? Or should the family move to another country?

These are big life decisions indeed. And again, instead of just listing out the pros and cons, and seeking out godly wisdom and counsel (all needful and helpful), the same question should be asked:

“What is God calling me/us to? And can I/we fulfil it better where we are or somewhere else?”

What Is God Calling You To?

Which of course leads to the next question, “What exactly is God calling me to?” Do you know what your assignment from the Lord is? It may not necessarily be the church ministry you are serving in, although it could be. It could be to just be a mother.

But before you even try to answer all those questions, STOP. Take a deep breath. First things first.

Focus on the Aligning and Let God Do the Assigning

Start by aligning with and to God, His Kingdom, and His Purposes. He created you. He also created your children and gave them to you to care and raise. And He definitely has an assignment or assignments for you. And you need to go fulfil it or them.

So that at the end of it all, you can stand in front of Him and hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21.

Instead of rushing from activity to activity, pause and seek the Lord and hear from Him. Focus on aligning with God, and He will do the assigning. As you align with God, He will show you what your assignment/s are.

Not Overnight and Not Once and for All

Aligning with God, being assigned by God. Neither happens overnight. And neither can they be done just once and settled for all eternity.

No. Checking our alignment with God is something that we need to do regularly. Because of our sinful natures and fleshy desires, we are often pulled out of alignment from God. We need regular alignment checks, just like how a piano needs regular tuning to sound beautiful when played.

Different Seasons

Also, as we go through different seasons in our lives, God may have new assignments for us. Or perhaps it is the same assignment but it needs to be done a different way in this new season. Therefore, we need always to incline our ear to the Lord’s voice so that we are doing what He has asked us to do, and fulfil our ministry in the Lord (Colossians 4:17).
