My Amazing 19mth old

Ok – I have got to boast 🙂

The 19mth old toddler has been amazing me the past few days. Her level of comprehension has always amazed me since she was a baby. But now that she is a toddler I am completely swept away.

So I thought I would write it down so I won’t forget. Coz…shhhh! don’t tell the others, I absolutely cannot remember if the other 5 were like her at this age!

So what did she do? Last week when I told her that she needed to cut her fingernails, she got up, pushed the wastepaper basket and passed the nail clipper to me on her own accord! I did not have to tell her what to do. After I had trimmed her nails, she proceeded to put the nailclipper and the wastepaper basket back – again without any instruction on my part.

Then on Friday, she insisted on helping me set the table for dinner. So I handed her the 4 stainless steel plates that the younger ones use (the older 2 children who use Corningware plates were out). She managed to set the plates at the correct position at the dining table! I thought she would just line the plates one next to the other and that would have been enough for me. So when I came out of the kitchen to check, I was shocked to see the plates at the correct placement! I thought it was a fluke shot.

Then yesterday, she did it again! Nope, it wasn’t a fluke shot! 🙂

I would have been quite blase about this if I had taught her how to do it. But I didn’t. No one did! So it was quite, quite amazing since she obviously learnt it all merely through observation. Wow!

Now I wonder what else she’s watching and learning? Gulp!

PS : And she barely speaks 5 words! Really. But then who needs to speak when there are so many people willing to interprete the sounds she makes!
