Pivot. The new buzzword or catchphrase of the season.
Are you also looking to pivot this season? After all, everyone around seems to be doing so to cope with the ever evolving circumstances due to Covid-19 and the restrictions that have come into place.
Pivot or Press On?
But what if you are not to pivot but to press on and maybe even dig deeper instead?
A few weeks ago, I posted on my Instagram feed, STAY THE COURSE, reminding some of us not to get distracted or even distressed by what’s happening but to stay the course that God has told us to get on.
Stay the Course
And this past week, this phrase, STAY THE COURSE, kept popping up in my head. Which is kind of contrary to the advice given on the internet these days.
Which is to PIVOT.
Pivot, the world says: pivot, or your business may go bust. Pivot or you will go crazy juggling Home Based Learning (HBL) and work life. We are told to pivot and not panic or to pivot and pause.
In other words, change things around. Because nothing is the same now. Even after the circuit breaker is lifted, we will not get back to our life before Covid-19 was unleashed. There will be a new normal.
I am not saying pivoting isn’t sound advice or even the right advice for you.
Should We Pivot or Press On?
But I am encouraging some of us to pray through before we pivot. Be it for our business, our homeschool or even our home life.
Are we really to pivot? Or are we to dig in and stay the course. Maybe we are to put on our blinders like horses do when their owners do not want them to get distracted? So that like them, we are not to look to the left or right but keep on keeping on?
What if we are not to pivot but to stand and press on?
How Are We To Know?
We have to go back to the original assignment the Lord gave us. What is the assignment He has given to us to do? In this season, HOW we carry out the assignment may have to change, even drastically for some of us.
But is the assignment also changed?
Is the season for your assignment over and you are to wait for the next one? Or are you to press on despite the challenges of the current circumstances?
I can’t tell you. You have to examine and perhaps, even re-examine yourself and your assignment with the Lord to figure it out. And there is no shortcut to this.
It is tempting to do what everyone else is doing. But…
Don’t Just Pivot
Don’t just follow the crowd and pivot because everyone around you is telling you to or has already pivoted Maybe that’s what they are to do. But what about you? Is that what God is saying to you?
If yes, do it!
If not, press on!
Don’t let the noise of the world throw you off. Focus on His still small voice.
Information or Instruction?
There is a lot of information these days, lots of advice too. But are these helpful for accomplishing your assignment in the Lord or are they distractions, luring you away from being faithful to your assignment?
Information can lead to more worry and fear, paralyzing us instead of energizing us. I quote this passage from our ministry, Archippus Awakening‘s blog,
God dropped these words into his heart, “There is information and there are orders.”
(Pastor Henson) explained that we need to discern the difference between information and orders. If we are not careful, information can confuse us or distract us from our orders. Orders can change in light of the information (yes, they can shift); or orders can remain in spite of the information.

Pivoting is trendy. But is that word just information or instruction for us?
Obedience is Better Than Sacrifice
Friends, regardless of whether you are to pivot or press on, let us remember that above all, what God requires of us is obedience.
If He has asked you to pivot and you would not out of fear or complacency you are disobedient.
If He has asked you to press on but you would not out of weariness or boredom, you are also disobedient.
Pivot or press on? Let us seek to hear His voice and then obey.
