I meant to publish this last month! But one thing led to another and then I got caught up decluttering the house so this has been waay delayed!

Our oldest child turned 12 last month. Yes, we have a child on the brink of manhood here 🙂

As I look at him and remember his early days I can’t help but laugh at the things I used to do when we had him. I was a very different parent back then. I think I must have irritated the grandparents a lot by my list of dos and don’ts.

Just like any other new parent, I was overly anxious and overly anal about many things. I thought I knew everything. Afterall, I did my research and read all the right books. Whatever the “experts” said, he did. So I thought I had it all figured out.

Ah!!!

How wrong I was! I had often said that if we had stopped at 2 children, I could have written books on parenting.

Well, you know how God uses our children to teach us things? Well, he sent me #3. And I learnt a lot from him and Him 🙂 By the time he sent us #7, I know for sure that I don’t know anything about raising children at all! And I certainly won’t be writing any books on parenting for sure!

Now that I have a young man in the house, I am learning how to parent all over again. I am always feeling that I am on unchartered waters with him since he is our first child.

And this is what I have learnt the past 12 years as a mom – I need God!

Reading books on parenting is only one small step to knowing how to parent the children God has given to me. I need godly wisdom daily to know how train up (each) child in the way he should go. (Proverbs 22:6).

I need to stick real close to God and let Him guide me on what to do with each child. And since every child is different (cliche as it may sound) I can’t just rely on a method but on Him 🙂

Meanwhile, I am just grateful that God made children resilient and forgiving.
