As I approach the end of this pregnancy, my Quiet Times with the Lord has become more and more sporadic. And honestly, insufficient. Without using a devotional, I am choosing more and more to nap, surf the Net, work on my website… Just do anything but spend time with the Lord.
I had written about the importance of Quiet Times before in The Necessity of Quiet Time and Falling Off the QT Wagon) so I will not repeat myself. I just want to share that without accountability, it is very easy to not spend time with the Lord, even though we know that we need the Lord.
We Need The Lord
But our role as wives, as moms, is hard!

More so when we want to be godly wives and moms. And so since we can’t count on our innate wish to spend time with the Lord, we ought to fix it into our routine. Just be careful that it isn’t one more thing to be ticked off in our To-Do List. And let us not get legalistic about it – oh I must do my QT or else the Lord will not bless me, etc..
Using a Devotional Keeps Me on Track
So I decided that I will be using a devotional so that I have a structure to help me as I progress in this pregnancy. Also, I know that with baby’s arrival, using a devotional would ensure that I am at least reading a portion of scripture daily. Otherwise, it would be way too easy to use the busyness of the season to say that I have no time to read the Bible.
While I was wondering what I would use, I went surfing on the Net. Now I know that if I used an online resource for my Quiet Time, I would be tempted to surf for other stuff or check my emails. Yeah. No self-discipline.
For those who are stronger than me, there are plenty of free online devotionals out there!
Online Resources
One that I have used before is found at Back To The Bible. They have many devotionals by various authors like Charles Spurgeon and Woodroll Kroll. Or you can choose by topics. Another popular online resource is CrossWalk and She Reads Truth. An easy to read one is Daily Gifts of Hope: Devotions for Each Day of Your Year
Otherwise, just google “devotionals” and choose one that you like. There are plenty out there and you have no more excuses to not do your devotions.
My Utmost for His Highest
I have decided to pull out and use Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest journal which was just sitting on my bookshelf. And I am praying that this will keep me on track and not get distracted again! You can only get this devotional online at My Utmost For His Highest.
What Do You Use?
What about you? Do you also Struggle to Spend Quiet Times with the Lord? Do you have a favourite resource that you would like to share with us?
May this post prompt you to press on to seek His face and presence in your own daily walk with Jesus.
